DIR EN GREY – DUM SPIRO SPERO (Review)

I’m not even sure what I can say about this band or this release. The best compliment I can give them is that I’m not sure that they fit well into any category. So I will give them a new one: Cinematic Death Metal. That sounds about right. Dum Spiro Spero is Dir En Grey’s 8th studio release. It is an atmospheric and savage drop into a deeper and far scarier world than the one I live in. All in all this is a very good record for hard metal fans and experimental hard rock fans. I honestly can not tell whether I love it or hate it. All the instrumentation is fantastic for the intent. The vocals which range from dark angel falsetto to growling lower level demon also are perfect for the intended result. I feel like I’m living in a terrifying video game.

Somewhat confused but definitely impressed.
