Don’t Stop Believin – Everyman’s Journey (Film review)

Posted in: Rock And Roll |

“Don’t Stop Believing” is an amazing documentary on Arnel Pineda, who was discovered on YouTube and came from Manila, the Philippines to become the new singer for Journey.
That doesn’t come close to saying all there is to say about this uplifting story, but it should be enough to peak your interest. I loved this movie and I love Arnel. He seems very genuine and also obviously appreciates the opportunity he has been given. The film gives you insight into a man who was homeless in Manila at age thirteen, has weathered many storms, and never gave up.
Likewise, Journey has never given up either. Now the band has transformed again and clearly has the right singer for the times  - as well as a new international fan base (The Filipino community is wonderfully loyal to Pineda, and it’s no wonder that they’re very proud of him).
I don’t want to give too much away so I won’t. An interesting revelation for me was that when Journey tours, Arnel gets 1/5 of the profits. Talk about a band doing the right and fair thing.
If you are – or ever were – a fan of Journey, or if you just like a good underdog story, then see this movie. (It’s on Netflix!)
Arnel has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard, and he owns the stage because he’s a rock star.  He is an inspiration.
